Get your NUID without document mistakes
The Tamil Nadu Nurses & Midwives Council has asked nurses to enrol for the Nurse Unique Identity Number (NUID) through the Indian Nursing Council website on or before 31 October 2026. SSIMS checks your documents first and guides you through each step, so your application is right the first time.
What is NUID?
NUID is the Nurse Unique Identity Number. The Indian Nursing Council runs the Nurses Registration & Tracking System (NRTS), a live national register of nurses. After your State Nursing Council verifies your details on NRTS, you receive a NUID that identifies you across the country.
It is an identity number, not a licence
Your registration number from your State Nursing Council stays your licence to practise. NUID links that registration to the national register.
Your State Council verifies it
You apply on the NRTS portal and your State Nursing Council checks the application. INC does not register you directly.
Extra CNE hours for first-time NUID
INC's NRTS page states that nurses who receive a NUID card for the first time get an incentive of 30 hours of CNE.
Who should enrol?
Registered nurses and midwives, whether in government or private service, and nurses studying further. This includes ANM, GNM, B.Sc Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc, M.Sc Nursing and Health Visitors (LHV) registered with a State Nursing Council.
Documents you need
Keep clear scans ready before you start. Requirements can differ slightly between councils, so we confirm the exact list for your case.
- Aadhaar card with your mobile number linked, because verification uses an OTP
- 10th (SSLC) certificate as proof of date of birth
- Nursing qualification certificates (ANM, GNM, B.Sc, Post Basic, M.Sc as applicable)
- State Nursing Council registration certificate (and renewal certificate, if renewed)
- Recent passport-size photograph on a plain light background
- Your signature on white paper
- Name-change proof (marriage certificate or gazette), only if your name differs between documents
- Active mobile number and email ID for portal login and updates
How NUID enrolment works
-
Open the NRTS portal
Go to the official Indian Nursing Council NRTS site (nrts.indiannursingcouncil.gov.in) and choose enrolment as a new user.
-
Select your council and enter registration details
Choose your State Nursing Council, then enter your registration number and date of birth exactly as on your certificates.
-
Verify with Aadhaar OTP
The OTP goes to the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar. Create your NRTS username and password.
-
Add photo, signature and documents
Capture or upload your photograph and upload the required certificates as clear scans.
-
Submit to your State Nursing Council
Your council verifies the application. Some councils may also call you for Aadhaar biometric authentication or certificate verification.
-
Receive your NUID
After approval your NUID is issued and you can check your status on the NRTS portal. If an application is sent back, correct the points raised and submit again.

Frequently asked questions
What is the last date for NUID enrolment?
The Tamil Nadu Nurses & Midwives Council has issued a circular asking nurses to enrol for NUID on or before 31 October 2026 through the INC website. Dates can change, so we recommend checking the council's latest circular.
Is NUID the same as my nursing registration?
No. Registration is done by your State Nursing Council and that number remains your licence to practise. NUID is a national identity number linked to it.
Who needs to enrol for NUID?
Registered nurses and midwives, including ANM, GNM, B.Sc Nursing, Post Basic and M.Sc Nursing, and Health Visitors, whether working in government or private service or studying further.
Why must my mobile number be linked with Aadhaar?
Enrolment includes OTP-based Aadhaar authentication. The OTP is sent to the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar, so that number must be active with you.
What if my name is different on my documents?
Keep proof of the change, such as a marriage certificate or gazette notification. Different spellings between Aadhaar and certificates can delay or return an application, so we check this before you submit.
How long does it take to get the NUID?
INC has not published a fixed timeline. It depends on verification by your State Nursing Council, which is why a complete and correct application submitted early works best.
Do you need my original documents?
We work from clear scans for the document check. If your State Nursing Council asks for originals during verification, we will tell you in advance.
Do not wait for the last day
Send us a message and we will tell you exactly what to keep ready.
SSIMS Institute is a private institute and is not part of the Indian Nursing Council or any State Nursing Council. NUID is issued through the official NRTS portal after your State Nursing Council's verification. Rules, dates and requirements are set by the councils and may change, so please confirm against the latest official circular.
